With Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II out at the cinema now it marks the end of an era, whether you're a potter fan or not. I loved the books and enjoyed the films and thought what better way to say goodbye to the trio than do a themed Potter post. If you're on tumblr you will have noticed the challenges which are flying around from certain bands to personal challenges, so of course there had to be a Harry Potter one! If you want to go ahead and do this yourself there's no need to link back to me as this came from the Heck Yeah! Tumblr Challenges tumblr.
I've put a cut here as there are spoilers ahead so if you've never read the books and are planning to, then it's probably best to stay away from this post.
Day 1: Your favorite book.
It will always be The Prisoner of Azkaban for me. I loved everything about it, from the Dementors to the werewolf to Sirius Black, the Night Bus to the Marauder's Map! I mean, it had everything in it. Plus that was when you started to notice the series getting a little bit darker too.
Day 2: Your favorite movie.
Prisoner of Azkaban is right up there, but after re-watching Half-Blood Prince yesterday, I thought it was a really good film. So it's a toss-up between the two.
Day 3: Have any of the film adaptations made you angry because they’ve ignored important parts of the book?
I didn't really notice any severe differences, mainly because when you're making a film you can't possibly, feasibly put every last detail into the film so it wouldn't have bothered me anyway. All of the major points in each of the books were there and that's all that counts. There were some little added extra scenes from the books which I'd have loved to have seen in the films, but it's not possible.
Day 4: Least favorite female character and why.
Ummm...probably Cho Chang. I just didn't think she was a major character and she wasn't one that I was really drawn to. If I had to pick anyone it would be her. Sorry Cho!
Day 5: Favorite male character and why.
Oh my gosh!!! This is tough. I loved Sirius and I thought Horace Slughorn was brilliant, and I loved Firenze the centaur too, but it's probably Remus Lupin, or Professor Lupin. I thought he was a brilliant character, certainly my favourite teacher and of course his back-story was so complex and he had the added coolness of being a werewolf, which may not seem cool considering it's a curse, but it's cool to me.
Day 6: Which house would you want to be in?
Gryffindor. It has to be said, and being a redhead I think I'd fit in quite well with the Weasley's.
Day 7: Favorite female character and why.
Ooh, tough question. Of course McGonagall's up there and Hermione too, but I really love Luna Lovegood. Off in her own world and completely mad with it.
Day 8: What do you think would be your favorite lesson?
Probably flying a broomstick. Knowing me I'd have a panic attack just trying to get off the ground. It would be fun though to do.
Day 9: Least favorite male character.
Probably Lucius Malfoy actually. The way he drags his son down with him into everything, I thought, was awful. To do that to your own son is despicable, but he just turned out to be a coward by the end.
Day 10: Horcruxes or Hallows?
The Hallows. The tale that went with it was amazing and of course you have to murder someone to create a Horcrux so Hallows it is, and I'd love to have an invisibility cloak.
Day 11: Which character would you say you are most like?
Most like? I don't know...I'm going to quickly take a quiz! Apparently I'm a cross between Luna and Albus Dumbledore. Not bad.
Day 12: Favorite ship?
Ron and Hermione. As soon as he was irritating her in the first book, I knew.
Day 13: Least favorite movie.
I don't have one, I've enjoyed all of them equally.
Day 14: Team Voldemort or Team Harry?
Haha! Ah poor Voldemort, he hasn't really done any good for himself has he, by burning his mark into his followers' arms, murdering people and generally being a tyrant? Team Harry, I'm a Good>Evil kind of person.
Day 15: Who would be your best friends at Hogwarts? (three only)
Harry, Hermione and Ron! (Can I squeeze Neville, Luna and Ginny in there though, and the Weasley twins?)
Day 16: Favorite professor.
Horace Slughorn! He means well and Jim Broadbent played him down to a tee!
Day 17: Are you excited about The Deathly Hallows movie or scared it won’t do the book justice?
I was looking forward to it like anyone else, though having the break in the middle is a bit annoying because I want to watch it all in one go! Cliffhangers and I just create impatience. And also, even if the film didn't do the book justice, it could never be the same because it's the film and not the book. Books are always better.
Day 18: Least favorite book.
Again I enjoyed all of them!
Day 19: Do you prefer the books or films?
I do prefer the books but the films are good and I love watching them.
Day 20: If you had to meet one member of the cast, who would it be?
Gary Oldman. So, so good as Sirius. I couldn't fault his performance. And...Helena Bonham Carter purely because she played Bellatrix fantastically and she just seems like the kind of person I'd get on with very well. She seems utterly mad and down to earth.
Day 21: Out of all the characters that died, if you could bring one back, who would it be?
SPOILERS! It's too hard to pick, but Dobby. I cried and cried at that scene. WHY?!
Day 22: Harry Potter or Twilight?
I actually don't mind Twilight, but out of the two I do prefer Harry Potter.
Day 23: Any part of the books/movies that makes you cry?
When Professor Slughorn is telling Harry about the fish bowl that Lily, his mother, gives him. I always cry, it's such a sweet and sad moment.
Day 24: Any particular scene you wished would have been put in the movie but it wasn’t?
I would have done the Malfoy's Manor scene differently. It didn't have the impact it had in the book really.
Day 25: Nineteen years later: Are you happy how it turned out, or do you wish something was different? (i.e. Neville married Luna)
It would have brilliant to have seen Neville and Luna married but it all ended really nicely I though, and it's not my book it's JK's anyway.
Day 26: If you could be able to work one spell without a wand what would it be?
Lumos would certainly come in handy! Eco-friendly lighting, haha.
Day 27: Would you rather own the Invisibility Cloak, the Resurrection Stone or the Elder Wand?
Hands down the cloak. I would go into MI5 and just read everything, but not tell anyone, haha.
Day 28: Do you listen to Wizard Wrock, what do you think about it?
Haha, I've actually heard one or two songs but I don't listen to it regularly. It's funny and cute.
Day 29: Did you enjoy A Very Potter Musical?
I've never seen it.
Day 30: What effect has Harry Potter made on your life and how much does it mean to you?
I'm not a super-fan or anything, but it was just an amazing series of books that spanned generations as adults would be reading them too. I love the fantasy genre and I loved all of the little details and the originality and the films were fun too. It was a big part of my childhood as the memorabilia was everywhere and the books were just stacked so high in all the bookshops but as they say, all good things must come to and end, and I'm not unhappy that it's finished. I fell in love with all the characters, but who says you can't re-read the whole series and re-watch all the films, so in a way it never ends.
Sorry for the lack of photos, I'll post regularly tomorrow!
