Rain Patterns & Sunshine Skies

It's been unusually mild up here in the Lake District this Winter and the usual chill and frost we got last December and January seems to have disappeared. There are even some daisies blooming in the garden! One thing that has been constant, however, is the rain.

I do find the rain comforting when it patters down on window panes, but I am longing for some sunshine too. As soon as Christmas is over I am itching for the warmth, light breezes and the awakening of Springtime - it's my favourite season and I can't wait until the hedgerows are alive with colour again.

That's not to say that Winter doesn't have it's own beauty - these little patterns left on Mum's car after one of the showers intrigued me greatly.

And just when you think you'll never see the sun again, it magically re-appears and so do the birds! The little black outlines in the first photo are lots of seagulls and crows wheeling and diving through the clouds - I even believe some of the starlings joined in too!

Going back in time a tiny bit, these were the skies on Christmas Eve - a good sign for the New Year, surely? I love the different colours and birds flying overhead.

I'm linking up with Jen from Pierced Wonderings for Photo Friday.

Hope you've all had a lovely week!

  2. Nice capture of something we often don't take the time to truly see. Something as simple as patterns made by raindrops often goes unnoticed.

  3. Loving these cloud pictures.

Also mild here though the forecast says that is set to change. We have had daffodil bulbs threw for a few days now.

  6. I love the photograph of the birds soaring through the burst of sunshine - such a hopeful, optimistic image. I'm with you though - once Christmas is over I'm itching for colour, warmth and longer days. We're one week into January already though, so we're getting there!

  7. There's something very beautiful about a mass of delicate rain drops seen through a window, I find it to be very calming - as are these photos :)

  8. I don't really mind rain but I do get fed up of any weather when it's just the same everyday - wet and windy day followed by wet and windy day. I'm fed up of the mildness as well - I would like to see some proper winter weather - frost and snow - before spring arrives!

  15. Those are really great shots and I was amazed by the patterns on the car. That was really pretty. For us, it snowed yesterday for the first time this winter, but we only got a few flurries. No snowman yet... :)

  16. Love your beautiful cloud pictures! I like the winter when there's snow, too many rainy days aren't my favorite either ;) We're supposed to get some more snow this weekend, I'll enjoy that, and then I look forward to spring :D
    Have a fabulous day, Tasha!
    Lots of hugs to you,

  17. I thought I'd already commented - I must have been interrupted. I have rain envy. We so desperately need some rain, we haven't had nearly enough this season. Post rain is so much fun for photographs too. I can see why the rain patterns had you intrigued, they're such wonderful little organic shapes but all mostly the same size. Great shots.
